Passing of a Scholar

The Scholar community was notified two weeks ago of the passing of Lt Col (Ret) Marius (Gus) Sorenson.  A memorial service was held at the Air Force Academy chapel prior to interment at the Academy cemetery on 3 Mar 14.  Attached is a brochure from the memorial service which provides a fuller account of Gus' life and legacy.  A Scholar who will be sorely missed.

The Erik S. Kristensen Joint Lecture Series

A lecture series in the name of Erik Kristensen is being organized at St John's College and the United States Naval Academy. LCDR Kristensen was selected as a Scholar in the Class of 2006.  Prior to beginning the Olmsted Scholar Program he was killed in combat in Afghanistan, leading a mission to rescue a SEAL team.  All Scholars are encourged to review the attached proposal and participate if they are able.

MG Donahue Assumes New Command

MG Patrick J. Donahue II, OSC 87 in Innsbruck, Austria, was recently assigned as Commanding General, U.S. Army Africa/Southern European Task Force, Vicenza, Italy.  General Donahue is currently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
