Olmsted Liaison Program
The Olmsted Liaison program was officially launched in March 2007. The program is intended to provide Olmsted Scholars an opportunity to serve as liaisons between the Olmsted Foundation and various military installations, education and training locations, and university ROTC programs for each of the four military services.
Olmsted Foundation Liaison Officers (OFLO) Purpose of the Program: The purpose of the Olmsted Foundation Liaison Officer Program is to provide designated and dedicated Olmsted Scholars across the country, and overseas, to help serve the broad goals and objectives of the Olmsted Foundation and the Olmsted Scholar Program. These duties would help advertise, promote and fundamentally advance the overall prestige and recognition of the Olmsted Foundation's programs.
Organizational Construct: The basic organizational construct of the program will include geographically distributed OFLOs that would be responsible for performing the role of a liaison with several designated institutions in that geographic area. There may also be regional OFLOs that will be designated and responsible for multiple OFLOs within that region of the country. OFLOs would also be designated as primary liaisons for each of the three Service Academies.
Administration of the Program: Primary responsibility for administering the OFLO program will fall to the Vice President for Special Programs at the Foundation.
Designation of Liaison Officers: OFLOs will be designated from volunteers within a given region or geographic area. OFLOs will not reveive salaries or monetary compensation, except for reimbursement of allowed expenses incurred while performing OFLO duties. OFLOs will be formally identified and provided introductory information and materials for their use at designated institutions assigned/attached to the OFLO's area.
Duties of OF Liaison Officers: OFLOs will be responsible for both general responsibilities in support of the Olmsted Foundation as well as specifically designated responsibilities and duties. General responsibilities will include promoting and supporting the basic values of the Olmsted Foundation to include:
- The importance of understanding other cultures and speaking foreign languages
- The principle of exposure to a broad array of experiences for senior leaders
- Instilling these values in youth through programs such as Scouting, JROTC, etc.
Specific responsibilities and duties will include: - Attending and representing the Olmsted Foundation at functions such as award dinners and ceremonies
- Providing briefing and advertising materials to appropriate institutions
- Communicating and relaying information on a recurring basis with institutions and the Foundation
- Planning and organizing gatherings and "Assemblies" with other Scholars and appropriate attendees in the designated geographic region
Duties of Olmsted Foundation: The Foundation will:
- Provide materials and support items to the OFLOs and regularly update them as required
- Assist the OFLO in gaining access and formal recognition as an official representative of the Olmsted Foundation by the appropriate institutions
- Provide financial support as determined by the BoD to possibly include travel & mileage costs, banquet and/or conference fees, administrative support costs, etc.
